چکیده

Let L be a language decided by a constant-round quantum Arthur-Merlin (QAM) protocol with negligible soundness error and all but possibly the last message being classical. We prove that if this protocol is zero knowledge with a black-box, quantum simulator S, then L ∈ BQP. Our result also applies to any language having a three-round quantum interactive proof (QIP), with all but possibly the last message being classical, with negligible soundness error and a black-box quantum simulator. These results in particular make it unlikely that certain protocols can be composed in parallel in order to reduce soundness error, while maintaining zero knowledge with a black-box quantum simulator. They generalize analogous classical results of Goldreich and Krawczyk (1990). Our proof goes via a reduction to quantum black-box search. We show that the existence of a black-box quantum simulator for such protocols when L / ∈ BQP would imply an impossibly-good quantum search algorithm.

On the Composition of Zero-Knowledge Proof Systems

The wide applicability of zero-knowledge interactive proofs comes from the possibility of using these proofs as subroutines in cryptographic protocols. A basic question concerning this use is whether the (sequential and/or parallel) composition of zero-knowledge protocols is zero-knowledge too. We demonstrate the limitations of the composition of zeroknowledge protocols by proving that the orig...

On the 'composition of Zero-knowledge Proof Systems on the Composition of Z~ro· Knowledge Proof Systems

A basic question concerning zero-knowledge proof systems is whether their (sequential and/or parallel) composition is zero-knowledge too. This question is not only of natural theoretical interest, but is also of great practical importance as it concerns the use of zero-knowledge proofs as subroutines in cryptographic protocols. We prove that the original formulation of zero-knowledge as appeari...

The Knowledge Tightness of Parallel Zero-Knowledge

We investigate the concrete security of black-box zeroknowledge protocols when composed in parallel. As our main result, we give essentially tight upper and lower bounds (up to logarithmic factors in the security parameter) on the following measure of security (closely related to knowledge tightness): the number of queries made by black-box simulators when zero-knowledge protocols are composed ...

Private Coins versus Public Coins in Zero-Knowledge Proof Systems

Goldreich-Krawczyk (Siam J of Comp’96) showed that only languages in BPP have constant-round public-coin black-box zero-knowledge protocols. We extend their lower bound to “fully black-box” privatecoin protocols based on one-way functions. More precisely, we show that only languages in BPP—where Sam is a “collision-finding” oracle in analogy with Simon (Eurocrypt’98) and Haitner et. al (FOCS’07...

The Round-Complexity of Black-Box Zero-Knowledge: A Combinatorial Characterization

The round-complexity of black-box zero-knowledge has for years been a topic of much interest. Results in this area generally focus on either proving lower bounds in various settings (e.g., Canetti, Kilian, Petrank, and Rosen [3] prove concurrent zero-knowledge (cZK) requires Ω(log n/ log log n) rounds and Barak and Lindell [2] show no constant-round single-session protocol can be zero-knowledge...
